Shielding Our Children: A Call to Protect and Edify Young Hearts

The following article arises from a heartfelt concern to guard the innocence of children from the modern movement to promote harmful ideologies which endangers them. To counter the harmful influences, protect youth from the insidious cultural messages and guide children to avoid the dangers of exploitation and ideology.

Jovially promoting topics like brothels, prostitution, pornography, and certain ideological agendas (such as those related to transgenderism or LGBTQIPW+ indoctrination ideology) in an excusable, affirming or positive light, which may influence impressionable children or vulnerable children and adults, is a sensitive issue that many argue can have negative impacts on the development and well-being of such children, potentially making them slaves to debilitating behaviours for life.

Below, are reasons why these topics, when presented uncritically or inappropriately to young audiences, may be considered harmful, grounded in widely held concerns about child psychology, moral development, and societal norms.

I have asked for assistance from Grok, so as to ensure the following is not biased by my personal views.  The aim is to approach this thoughtfully, while providing a reasoned perspective based on common secular arguments, followed by a biblical perspective.

1. Inappropriate Exposure to Adult Themes
  • Reason: Topics like brothels, prostitution, and pornography are inherently adult-oriented and often involve explicit sexual content or morally complex issues. Children, whose cognitive and emotional capacities are still developing, may lack the maturity to process these concepts appropriately.
  • Impact: Exposure to such themes can lead to confusion, premature sexualization, or distorted views of relationships and intimacy. Studies in child psychology, such as those from the American Psychological Association (APA), suggest that early exposure to sexual content can disrupt healthy emotional development and increase risks of anxiety or unhealthy sexual behaviors later in life.
  • Biblical Context: The Bible emphasizes protecting innocence and purity, particularly in youth. For example, Matthew 18:6 warns against causing children to stumble, suggesting a responsibility to shield them from corrupting influences.

2. Undermining Healthy Moral and Social Development
  • Reason: Promoting activities like prostitution or pornography as positive may normalize behaviors that many ethical frameworks, including, but not exclusively, Christianity, view as harmful or exploitative. These topics often involve issues of objectification, commodification of human beings, or moral compromise, which can conflict with teaching children values like respect, dignity, and love.
  • Impact: Children may internalize skewed views of human worth, relationships, or gender roles. For instance, pornography can foster unrealistic expectations about intimacy, as noted in research from organizations like the Family Research Council, which links pornography exposure to distorted perceptions of healthy relationships among youth.
  • Biblical Context: Proverbs 22:6 emphasizes training children in the "way they should go," implying guidance toward virtues like integrity and respect, rather than exposing them to practices that may glorify exploitation or immorality.

3. Confusion Around Identity and Ideology
  • Reason: Promoting transgender or LGBTQIPW+ indoctrination ideology to children, particularly in a way that encourages exploration of complex identity issues, can be challenging for young minds still forming their sense of self. These topics often involve nuanced concepts of gender and sexuality that may be difficult for children to navigate without clear, age-appropriate guidance.
  • Impact: Introducing these ideas too early may lead to confusion or pressure to adopt identities before children have the cognitive capacity to critically evaluate them. Critics, including some child development experts, argue that this can contribute to identity confusion or social pressure, especially in environments where ideological conformity is emphasized. For example, studies like those from the American College of Pediatricians (2020) have raised concerns about the long-term psychological effects of early gender-affirming interventions on minors.
  • Biblical Context: The Bible presents a binary view of gender (e.g., Genesis 1:27, "male and female he created them") and encourages teaching children in alignment with God’s design. Promoting alternative ideologies may conflict with these teachings, potentially causing spiritual or moral confusion. The mental contortions and health problems which emerge from believing or teaching lies as truth is a major issue for individuals and societies.

4. Desensitization to Harmful Behaviors
  • Reason: Presenting brothels, prostitution, or pornography as positive or neutral can desensitize children to the associated risks, such as human trafficking, exploitation, or addiction. These industries often involve significant harm, as evidenced by reports from organizations like the International Labour Organization, which estimate millions are trafficked yearly in sex industries.
  • Impact: Normalizing these activities may reduce children’s ability to recognize or empathize with victims of exploitation, undermining their moral compass. It could also increase vulnerability to predatory behaviors by diminishing their understanding of healthy boundaries.
  • Biblical Context: Ephesians 5:11 urges believers to "take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them," suggesting a call to protect children from influences that glorify harmful practices.

5. Erosion of Family and Community Values
  • Reason: Promoting these topics in a positive light can clash with traditional family values or community standards, particularly those rooted in religious or cultural frameworks that prioritize chastity, fidelity, and respect for others. This can create tension or division within families or communities.
  • Impact: Children may feel caught between conflicting messages from home, faith, or society, leading to emotional stress or alienation. For example, a 2019 study from the Journal of Family Issues noted that exposure to conflicting moral frameworks can increase anxiety and reduce family cohesion in children (and adults!).
  • Biblical Context: Deuteronomy 6:6-7 instructs parents to teach God’s commandments diligently to their children, emphasizing a consistent moral framework that aligns with biblical values, rather than exposing them to conflicting ideologies.

6. Risk of Normalizing Exploitation and Objectification
  • Reason: Industries like prostitution and pornography often involve the objectification of individuals, reducing them to commodities. Promoting these as positive can send a message to children that such treatment of people is acceptable.
  • Impact: This can erode empathy and respect for others, fostering attitudes that devalue human dignity. Research from groups like Fight the New Drug highlights how pornography exposure in youth can lead to increased tolerance of sexual violence or unhealthy relationship dynamics.
  • Biblical Context: 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 emphasizes the sanctity of the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit, encouraging behaviours that honor God and others, rather than exploiting them.

Considerations and Caveats
  • Age-Appropriate Discussions: Some argue that discussing topics like gender identity or sexuality with children can be done in age-appropriate ways to foster understanding or inclusivity. However, critics contend that even well-intentioned discussions can overwhelm young minds if not carefully framed, especially when presented in a way that endorses controversial or adult-oriented behaviours.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Views on these topics vary widely across cultures and belief systems. In a biblical context, for example, the emphasis is on guiding children toward godliness and protecting their innocence.
  • Balancing Truth and Love: Ephesians 4:15 encourages speaking the truth in love. While addressing these topics, Christians are called to guide children with compassion, avoiding condemnation while upholding biblical standards.

Practical Suggestions for Edifying Young People

1. Model Godly Behavior and Values
  • Why It Matters: Children learn by observing adults. Titus 2:7-8 urges believers to be models of good works, integrity, and sound speech. By living out biblical values like love, respect, and purity, adults provide a tangible example for children to follow.
  • How to Do It:
    • Demonstrate healthy relationships rooted in mutual respect and commitment, reflecting biblical teachings on marriage and love (e.g., Ephesians 5:25-33).
    • Practice integrity in daily life—be honest, keep promises, and show kindness, as these traits counter the objectification or exploitation often normalized in harmful industries like pornography.
    • Share personal stories (age-appropriately) about how faith guides your decisions, reinforcing positive moral choices.
  • Practical Example: If a child encounters inappropriate content online, use it as a teaching moment to discuss why it’s harmful, emphasizing respect for others as image-bearers of God (Genesis 1:27).

2. Teach Biblical Truths About Identity and Purpose
  • Why It Matters: Children are forming their sense of self, and the Bible offers a clear foundation for understanding identity as God’s creation (Psalm 139:14). This counters confusion from ideologies that may promote false, confusing, damaging, or otherwise quite creepy views of identity prematurely.
  • How to Do It:
    • Share scriptures that affirm God’s design, such as Genesis 1:27 (“male and female he created them”) or Jeremiah 1:5 (“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you”), to instill a sense of divine purpose.
    • Encourage children to explore their God-given talents and callings, focusing on character and service rather than external validation or societal trends.
    • Use age-appropriate devotionals or Bible studies to discuss identity, love, and relationships in a positive, faith-based context.
  • Practical Example: Create a family activity where children draw or write about how God made them unique, tying it to Psalm 139:14 (“fearfully and wonderfully made”) to build confidence in their God-given identity.

3. Foster Open Communication and Safe Spaces
  • Why It Matters: Ephesians 6:4 instructs parents to raise children with discipline and instruction in the Lord without provoking them to anger. Open dialogue helps children process questions about complex topics like sexuality or identity without feeling judged or confused.
  • How to Do It:
    • Create a safe environment where children feel comfortable asking questions about sensitive topics. Respond with patience and clarity, using age-appropriate language.
    • Teach discernment by discussing how to evaluate media, cultural messages, or ideologies through a biblical lens (e.g., Philippians 4:8—focus on what is pure, lovely, and commendable).
    • Regularly check in with children about what they’re encountering at school, online, or among peers, addressing harmful influences like pornography or ideological pressures early.
  • Practical Example: During family dinners, ask open-ended questions like, “What’s something new you learned today?” to spark discussions, gently guiding conversations toward biblical values when topics like gender or media arise.

4. Equip Children with Media Literacy and Boundaries
  • Why It Matters: The pervasive nature of media (e.g., internet, TV, social platforms) exposes children to harmful content like pornography or ideological messaging. Proverbs 4:23 urges guarding the heart, which includes being mindful of what children consume.
  • How to Do It:
    • Set clear boundaries for screen time and use parental controls to filter inappropriate content. Tools like Covenant Eyes or Bark can help monitor online activity.
    • Teach children to critically assess media messages, asking questions like, “Does this align with God’s truth?” or “How does this make you feel about yourself or others?”
    • Discuss the dangers of industries like pornography or prostitution, focusing on their exploitative nature without graphic detail, emphasizing compassion for those affected (e.g., Matthew 9:36—Jesus’ compassion for the lost).
  • Practical Example: For instance, if a situation you encounter promotes unhealthy relationships, contrast it with biblical principles of love and respect (1 Corinthians 13:4-7) and focus on the fruit, or consequences which each produces, i.e. freedom or slavery.

5. Encourage Positive Role Models and Community
  • Why It Matters: 1 Timothy 4:12 encourages young people to be examples in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. Surrounding children with positive role models reinforces these virtues and counters negative cultural influences.
  • How to Do It:
    • Involve children in church youth groups, mentorship programs, or community activities where they can interact with godly role models.
    • Highlight stories of biblical figures (e.g., Daniel, Esther) or modern Christians who exemplify courage, faith, and integrity in the face of societal pressures.
    • Encourage friendships with peers who share similar values, fostering a supportive community (Proverbs 13:20—“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise”).
  • Practical Example: Enrol children in a faith-based summer camp or youth group where they can build relationships and learn from mentors who model biblical values.

6. Instill a Heart for Compassion and Justice
  • Why It Matters: Rather than simply condemning harmful practices like prostitution or exploitative industries, teaching children compassion for those involved aligns with Jesus’ call to love others (John 13:34-35). This helps them reject harmful behaviors while caring for people.
  • How to Do It:
    • Teach children to pray for and support ministries that help victims of exploitation, such as those rescued from trafficking or struggling with addiction.
    • Discuss how God’s love extends to all people, even those caught in sinful systems, encouraging empathy without endorsing harmful behaviors.
    • Involve children in service projects that promote human dignity, such as volunteering at shelters or supporting anti-trafficking organizations.
  • Practical Example: As a family, support a ministry like International Justice Mission (now also operating in Malawi), discussing how it helps rescue people from exploitation, tying it to Micah 6:8’s call to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.”

7. Provide Age-Appropriate Education on Sensitive Topics
  • Why It Matters: Children will encounter topics like sexuality, gender, or societal issues at school or through media. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 emphasizes teaching God’s commands diligently, which includes preparing children to navigate these topics biblically.
  • How to Do It:
    • Introduce discussions about relationships, gender, and sexuality gradually, tailored to the child’s age and maturity. For young children, focus on God’s design for family and love; for teens, address more complex issues like cultural ideologies.
    • Use resources like age-appropriate Christian books to explain God’s design for the body and relationships.
    • Address the indoctrinating, slave-making, ideologies (e.g., transgender or LGBTQ+ perspectives) by affirming biblical truth with love, acknowledging differing views while grounding discussions in scripture (Ephesians 4:15 ff. speaking the truth in love”).
  • Practical Example: For a preteen asking about gender identity, explain God’s creation of male and female (Genesis 1:27) while encouraging kindness toward others, using simple analogies like God’s unique design for each person.

Supporting Insights
  • Child Development: Research from the American Academy of Pediatrics (2021) emphasizes the importance of age-appropriate exposure to complex topics to avoid cognitive or emotional overload. Guiding children with clear, value-based teaching supports healthy development.
  • Cultural Context: In a world where media and schools may promote certain ideologies or try to normalize unhealthy and unnatural behaviour or themes, proactively teaching biblical values helps children discern truth from cultural pressures.
  • Focusing on the consequences of worldviews always helps.
  • The traditional way of living: religion, traditional marriage, having children and raising a family usually leads to long-term happiness, healthy living and relationships, satisfaction and happiness in life.
  • The modern focus on alternative, damaging behaviours and relationships, usually leads to mental and physical health issues, no children, loneliness, sexually transmitted diseases, tendency toward drug and alcohol abuse to dull personal conscience, toxic relationships, long-term despair and high rates of suicide.
  • Biblical Foundation: Proverbs 22:6 (“Train up a child in the way he should go”) underscores the long-term impact of early guidance, ensuring children grow into adults who reflect God’s character.

Health Concerns Associated with Promoting Harmful or Inappropriate Topics to Children

A big area of concern when dealing with these issues is the health issue, so I thought I would deal with that separately.

Health-related concerns is a critical dimension to this discussion. Promoting topics like certain ideological indoctrination agendas (e.g., transgender or LGBTQIPW+ ideologies), brothels, prostitution, pornography, in a positive or uncritical light to children can expose them to risks that undermine their physical, mental, and emotional health.

Evidence based research continues to associate the prevalence of extreme drug and alcohol abuse to these behaviours and communities, which alone can be debilitating and destructive, but in combination with these unnatural, unhealthy, destructive behaviours promoted to young people can be life threatening and lead to life-long slavery to them.

Below, are specific health issues, drawing on evidence from child development research, public health studies, and epidemiological data.

These risks often stem from early exposure leading to behavioral changes, increased vulnerability, or unaddressed underlying needs. It is important to emphasize protection of children's well-being (e.g., 3 John 1:4, which rejoices in children walking in truth for their flourishing).

1. Increased Risk of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs/STIs) and Related Physical Health Complications
  • Reason: LGBTQIPW indoctrination, prostitution or brothels as positive normalizes high-risk sexual behaviors, such as unprotected sex or multiple partners, which are prevalent in these contexts. Children exposed to such messaging may experiment prematurely, bypassing education on safe practices. Public health data shows sex workers (including youth involved) face elevated STD rates—e.g., 30 times higher HIV risk for female sex workers compared to peers—and areas with higher prostitution activity correlate with community-wide STI spikes, like chlamydia rates over twice the national average, and gonorrhea over 100 times. Youth in exploitative settings are often under duress, using drugs (doubling HIV risk during encounters), and lack access to prevention.
  • Impact on Children: Early sexual activity linked to these influences raises STI contraction odds significantly, including HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and herpes. Untreated infections can lead to infertility, chronic pain, or increased cancer risk later. In the Philippines, underage youth in sex trade venues showed higher substance use during sex and lower HIV prevention knowledge, amplifying transmission.
  • Biblical Context: 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 calls for fleeing sexual immorality to honor the body as God's temple, underscoring physical health as tied to moral choices.

2. Mental Health Deterioration, Including Depression, Anxiety, and Suicidality
  • Reason: Pornography exposure distorts views of intimacy, leading to addiction-like brain changes via dopamine dysregulation, similar to substance use disorders. Over 50% of U.S. teens encounter porn by age 13, correlating with higher depression (up to 2x risk), anxiety, and emotional distress. For ideologies like transgender promotion, while some studies show short-term mental health benefits from affirmation (e.g., lower depression odds with care), critics highlight risks of regret or inadequate screening for comorbidities like autism or trauma, potentially exacerbating identity confusion and long-term distress (e.g., post-treatment regret rates up to 10-30% in some cohorts). Broader LGBTQIPW indoctrination in schools, if not balanced, can heighten minority stress, with LGBTQIPW indoctrinated youth facing 2-4x higher suicidality rates due to stigma or mismatched support.
  • Impact on Children: Leads to acting out, violent behaviors, lower self-esteem, and social isolation. A systematic review found porn-linked emotional disturbance persists into adulthood, increasing psychological illness likelihood. Transgender youth, even supported, show slightly elevated anxiety above norms.
  • Biblical Context: Philippians 4:6-7 promotes guarding the mind against anxiety through prayer, aligning with the need to protect young hearts from overwhelming exposures.

3. Promotion of Risky Sexual Behaviors and Physical Health Vulnerabilities
  • Reason: Positive framing of pornography or prostitution encourages permissive attitudes toward casual sex—linked to 20-50% higher teen pregnancy and STI risks. For the LGBTQIPW indoctrinated, early emphasis on exploration without comprehensive risk education can overlook higher STI rates in some subgroups (e.g., 2x chlamydia risk), violence and trauma, worsening health via genital injuries that heighten HIV transmission, mental health issues, drug abuse, relationship problems.
  • Impact on Children: Higher rates of unintended pregnancies, substance use during sex (doubling risks), and vulnerability to blackmail, trafficking or abuse. Porn exposure predicts earlier sexual debut by 1-2 years, amplifying these outcomes.
  • Biblical Context: Proverbs 5:3-6 warns of the destructive path of seductive influences, urging wisdom to avoid physical and spiritual ruin.

4. Long-Term Developmental and Societal Health Burdens
  • Reason: These promotions can desensitize children to exploitation, leading to objectification and reduced empathy, which correlates with higher sexual violence. Mental health disparities persist, with LGBTQIPW indoctrinated youth showing 5x depression rates, partly from school hostility despite inclusive efforts.
  • People have long memories and encouraging adoption of unnatural and unhealthy sexual practices to youth may lead to regretful comments or behaviour, destroying friendships.
  • Impact on Children: Chronic issues like addiction, distorted body image, and social marginalization, increasing healthcare costs and reducing life quality. Early porn use ties to addictions in 10-20% of adolescents.
  • Biblical Context: Ephesians 5:3-4 calls for purity and thanksgiving, fostering holistic health over fleeting pleasures.

Integrating with Edification Strategies

To counter these health risks, the practical suggestions from the previous response (e.g., media literacy, biblical identity teaching, and compassion-focused service) become even more vital. For instance, incorporate health education on STD prevention and mental resilience into family discussions, using resources like CDC youth guides or faith-based programs. This builds resilience while aligning with Proverbs 22:6's call to train children in protective paths.

Final Thoughts

Edifying young people involves intentional, proactive efforts to instill biblical values, foster critical thinking, and model Christ-like love.

By focusing on their God-given identity, especially in Christ, equipping them to navigate cultural challenges, and surrounding them with positive influences, adults can help children grow into confident, compassionate, and discerning individuals.

This approach counters the potential harms of promoting inappropriate or exploitative topics by filling their hearts and minds with what is good, true, and pure (Philippians 4:8).

To read about an increasingly widespread view of the movement spreading these damaging ideas to children please see a separate article Parents, be on guard. They do not care about our children.

The Conclusion of the Matter

"Not only was the Teacher wise, but he also imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs. The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.

The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails—given by one shepherd. Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.

Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.

For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:9-14)

The ultimate goal should be for every person to have a healthy relationship with their Creator.  At the end of all things nothing else matters. Life is short and there is an eternity. There is some very good news on this front:

No matter what you have done in this life, there is forgiveness. There is redemption. There is hope. There is a free offer of true freedom and a new life. This is for anyone who asks for it.

It requires repentance, which means acknowledging what you have been doing is not good, can't satisfy, doesn't help you or others, is a lost cause, and committing to changing your direction.

Don't worry, God knows you actually can't do this very well by yourself, so He will give you His Holy Spirit who will help you. Believe me you will be amazed!

It is not dependent on what you look like, what you do, what you have done. You cannot buy it. You cannot earn it. It is a free gift from God to you because He loves you.

The Christian Gospel is the good news that God loves people and offers salvation through Jesus Christ.

All people have sinned and fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23), but God sent His Son, Jesus, to live a sinless life, die on the cross for our sins, and rise again, conquering death (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

By repenting of sin and trusting in Jesus as Saviour and Lord, anyone can receive forgiveness, eternal life, and a restored relationship with God (John 3:16; Acts 4:12).

This free gift of grace transforms lives now, calls believers to follow Christ in love and obedience (Ephesians 2:8-9), and guarantees an eternity in Heaven.
